Design Development

Working on design development
This week has been pretty crazy, the work load is huge and the deadlines re short. We have been working on our container culture project for the last two weeks now, and I have completed my research and ideas sheets and have now started with my design development in the early stages. I thought that when I started this project the containers that I had chosen were not going to aid my creativeness, but I found in the end that the themes had created some really good, strong and interesting shapes.
The Board games theme in my project has actually been the most useful, I thought that the shapes would be too basic to be anything interesting but they have turned out to be the most successful. I also looked at musical instruments of all kinds to give variety and colour and also at rubbish and bins to see if I could find different textures.
I think my idea sheets are pretty simple with just using the shapes I have chosen and placing them on the figure, but I find this way helps me the most as I can then begin to imagine things as garments rather than just shapes.
We also got a chance to look at other peoples work this week, from our class and from previous years. This was a great help as it gave us an indication of the level and the amount of work that was required in order to gain a good mark. I think It was a shock for some people to see how much was expected of us, at first I thought that I was feeling the same, thinking that I would never be able to generate as much work, but now I have started my design development I have realised that It doesn’t take as long as you expect it to, so I’m hoping to be able to produce such work.
This week we also started the lectures for our new module Fashion, art and culture. I actually found this really interesting and I think the topics that we are going to cover will be something new and something that I will want to learn about. I have picked the theme of subcultures for this project, and am going to start taking photos of different people and how what makes them have that identity and what it means to them. I am going to try and make this work quite personal as it is something that I have always found interesting how fashion makes a statement and tells other people something about you. I’m not going to start working on this project just yet, I need to focus on the other project as we have so much work to do, so hopefully after I have completed some if that I will get a chance to get started on this new project.
We have had to start looking at houses for next year as well; It took quite a while to get it sorted with people not making up their minds and dropping out, which was very stressful for me and took up quite a lot of my time, so now that is out of the way hopefully I can relax and just start to get on with things and have a good time.
