Fabric Hunt

Finding fabrics
This week I have been carrying on with my design development, I got to a point where I felt that I had created enough design ideas to start refining them. I went through my designs and started picking out the ones that I felt were the most successful and adding colour to these designs to see what they looked like.
The market that I am aiming at is topshop, and the spring summer trend that I have chosen is bright block colours. I felt that this trend really fitted well with this market.
I am now starting to think of the designs that I am going to use for my final lone up and collection.
I am putting different outfits together and see which ones work well and I’m continuing using the same shapes and theme.
I’m going to experiment with a range of different colours and see which bode well together. I will also see if reducing the amount of colour used brings the outfits together as a collection.
This week I have had to find the fabrics that I want to use for my collection. I have decided to use a cotton, cotton jersey and a satin. These fabrics I feel are appropriate to the market level and would be within the price range for the manufacture.
I found some great fabrics on the market that were really amazing colours and matched what I had in mind. I also found some cotton jersey which I have actually dyed to the colours that I want. They don’t match quite as much but they give a good indication.
Also this week we had another lecture for fashion, art and culture. I found this really interesting, learning about how different fashion styles and garments came about, and learning how everything we see in fashion happens due to things going on around it.
I don’t usually enjoy the lecture style of learning, but this subject really interests me so it manages to sustain my interest.
I have started to research into different subcultures for the project now, and I hope to get some good photographs at some point this week, of different people and different styles.
I want to keep this project quite personal to me, so I’m going to use the people I know for part of this project, take photos of them in the style of clothes they wear, and take things from their personality and attitudes towards life to get to know something else about them.
I’ve also got some magazines of different kinds to do some more research into subcultures that I am not so familiar with. Hopefully this will give me an insight and will vary my knowledge.
I haven’t felt too well this week; getting tonsillitis has not been fun. However I have had to get on with work and I feel really drained now and am in need of a good rest. Hopefully next week I will feel rejuvenated.
